We are pleased to announce that there is a campus commitment to fund a new Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning for the next three years. The center will provide cross-disciplinary support for faculty, lecturers, and graduate student teaching assistants and instructors.
It is the goal of the Committee on Teaching to, above all else, promote excellent teaching at UCSC. Throughout its 50-year history, UCSC has built a global reputation as a research university with “an uncommon commitment to teaching.” With dramatic increases in our undergraduate population, and particularly in underserved populations which is reflected in our commitment to first-generation students and our recognition as an HSI, the need for high quality teaching is more pressing than ever before. The goal of the COT is to pay attention to policies and procedure that affect pedagogy on campus, to advice the Senate Executive Committee regarding instructional issues, to facilitate effective pedagogical practices among faculty, instructors and teaching assistants and to adjudicate the Excellence in Teaching Awards.
